Larry Flynn, MSW, LICSWLarry’s specialty is his ability to effectively help children of all ages, even the very young, and adolescents, with their emotional and/or behavioral challenges. His passion and expertise is so needed in a time when many of our youth are longing for someone they can talk to, connect with, and feel their voice is heard and understood. Larry is known for his ability to quickly build rapport with clients and help them to help themselves make healthy shifts and decisions. In addition to providing individual counseling for our youth of today, working with the entire family dynamic providing family counseling takes a very special skill set, as does helping parents navigate challenges — this is Larry’s skill. Also, this mental health professional has a solid clinical understanding of human behavior as he helps the individual young–adult and adult population with their individual and relational/couple mental health and wellness needs. Larry not only offers a supportive ear for clients of all ages, he has a genuine interest in the clients he provides counseling for and the skill to help them take action in their life to be in a better place emotionally/mentally.

Larry’s strength is his warmth, genuine interest in the clientele he works with, and skill to help people to help themselves reach their identified goals making healthy shifts. From the moment you meet Larry, clients report a strong connection and comfort with him, experiencing a trusting relationship in which he provides a therapeutic safe space. His style in working with the clientele that he serves is one of engagement.

Larry’s approach is one in which he helps clientele to identify the problem, “peel back the onion” as he likes to say, in an effort to understand the cause of the problem/challenges and to develop concrete strategies and solutions. He objectively helps clients to identify their problems, recognize thoughts and behaviors that are sustaining those problems, and ultimately helps to empower clients toward making positive shifts in their thoughts and behaviors. Larry’s approach is one of kindness, patience and care, while being assertive with specific direction as he guides clientele towards goal accomplishment.

Larry utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution based counseling style to help clients of all ages achieve their therapeutic goals in a timely fashion. When appropriate he also utilizes Family Systems Theory, Narrative, Talk Therapy, and Play Therapy.

Larry has been working with children for 13 years, and has been providing counseling for all ages for 6 years. Prior to joining our team, this caring health care professional provided therapeutic services in a hospital setting as well as a community based mental health care center counseling youth, families, couples and individuals, as well as providing in home counseling. Larry majored in mechanical engineering as an undergraduate, and ultimately found his calling in his passion for the human mind resulting in a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Psychology. In his graduate studies, he holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work with a specialization in children and families, as his greatest passion is working with children and families. Larry is an Independently Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is CANS certified (Children and Adolescents Needs and Strengths).
